8 Signs of a Great Nursery

Choosing the right nursery or day-care can be super stressful for a parent. Here’s 8 things you should look out for when making that decision!

Word of Mouth is Important

You need to build a realistic picture of the nursery’s reputation in your area, and one of the best and easiest ways to do that is to simply ask around. Ask other mums, and friends what their experiences were, and what their kids thought of the place.

There’s no getting around how useful word of mouth can be when it comes to assessing a services quality and trustworthiness.

Browse Online Reviews

Maybe you don’t have too many mum friends, and simply don’t know who to ask about the nursery in question. That’s okay! You just need to get online, and get searching. Everywhere is thoroughly reviewed nowadays, so there’s no need to worry about your kid going to a school without you first learning plenty about it.

Make sure you look through plenty of quality review sites, and choose somewhere with plenty of reliable, unbiased reviews endorsing it.

Ask About Their Policies

From kids getting sick, to snow days, knowing what different day-care centres policies are on different things can be hugely influential when making the right choice. There can be huge variance in policies between different options, so actually asking and finding out can be the best way to make this decision.

Friendly, Warm Atmosphere

Nothing compares to first-hand experience of an environment, and that’s why you need to get yourself down there, and be checking out the atmosphere. Is it tense? Is it warm? Is it friendly? These are all questions you should be thinking about when you first visit the place. While you might not think your kid can pick up on these kinds of things, children are super perceptive and atmosphere is massively important.

Welcoming Staff

You want staff you feel instantly that you can trust. They should be warm, friendly and welcoming, making you feel totally at home, and leaving you with zero worries when it comes to leaving your children with them. You absolutely cannot be leaving them with anyone you don’t explicitly trust.

Happy Kids

How do the other kids look? Are they happy, engaged, laughing and having fun? That’s exactly what you want to be seeing. If that’s the case, then maybe this is the preschool for you. If not, maybe it’s time to keep looking. Be aware though, that just after dropping-off is not a good time to make this assessment. A lot of young kids get very upset when first dropped off, regardless of how much fun they’re about to have!

Cleanliness is massively important too! Look around all the different rooms, and make sure that the place looks regularly and thoroughly cleaned. Cleanliness is essential for any place your kids are going to be spending a lot of time.

Ask About Activities

If a place doesn’t offer very much in the way of activities, you can be sure they’re not exactly a spectacular option. You want the kids to be enjoying a variety of different activities.
